Best Eyeshadow Primer: NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

Wednesday, 5 August 2015

For someone with the most oily eyelids, I can never go without having eye primer on my eyelids, even when I don't use eyeshadow. When I first got into makeup, I tried Urban Decay Primer Potion, and boy what a waste of money that was. I used it several times before I gave up and gave it away to my friend. After that I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance, which was not bad, but after 5-6 hours my eye makeup was guaranteed to crease. I saw Ingrid Nilsen used this and she said she had oily eyelids, so I bought it feeling desperate and since then I never looked back...

NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base is a transparent eyeshadow primer, it does lighten your eyelids a little bit but it does not give them coverage, so if you have vein-y eyelids and you want to cover them before eyeshadow, you have to use another eyeshadow base for that purpose. You apply it to your eyelid with the doe foot applicator and spread it evenly with fingers. A single dip is enough to cover both lids. It's quite up there in price, but a tube lasts such a long time because you don't need a lot for each use. It has more of a silicone-y, slippery texture compared to others I've tried. It also feels very smooth to the lids.

I usually allow this to set first for a couple of minutes before I do my eyeshadow, I find it works better that way. So I apply my eye primer, do my eyebrows, and then do my eyeshadow. Some people use this under their eyes as well to prevent concealer from creasing, but I've never tried that so I can't tell you if it works as well. Lisa Eldridge said that this can be a little drying, but I have very oily eyelids so I can't say I feel the same, if anything, a little drying action is necessary up on there.

Ever since I bought this, I never go a day without this product. Even on days where I wear cream shadow which is supposed to set and does not budge on its own. I never worry about my eye makeup even if I have worn it for 10 hours, because with this underneath, it never messes up. I am not at the point where I would risk having raccoon eyes to test the true longevity of a new eyeshadow haha, because I guarantee that even the most long lasting eyeshadow will crease on me if I don't prime my eyelids, it is that bad. This product also intensifies the colour of my eyeshadow more.

Of all the popular eyeshadow primer, this is the only thing that works for me, and that's saying a lot. So far I have not yet found an interest in trying out another primer, because I have not heard of anything that does a better job than this one.

Have you tried NARS Pro Prime or have you found anything better?
If you have, please write me down below!

Much love,
x
