Tarte Showstopper Clay Palette

Monday, 3 August 2015

I bought this palette on a whim, because the last palette I bought from Tarte which was Tartelette have been getting loads of love from me. I wear Tartelette shadows almost everyday for the past 2 months (which is why it's been featured a lot on my instagram!). The Tarte Showstopper Clay palette been getting a lot of attention on my Instagram because Tarte liked my picture and in one night I gained 60 followers, that never happened before so thank you! <3 I don't blame them because this palette is quite beautiful.

The packaging for this palette is perfect but not flawless. The gold is really beautiful and luxurious. I'm not really feeling the snake pattern on the lid but it's just my taste. I really love the size of the mirror and how the lid does not just fall back when it's opened (unlike the Naked palettes) which makes application easier and it represents the price tag really well. The only thing I don't like is how the names of the shades are not in the palette, instead they insert a transparent plastic sheet with the names of the product that I already tossed away. They did insert the names on the Tartelette, I wish they'd done that with this one too!

Everything in this palette is formulated with the famous amazonian clay which I love. The overall feel of this palette for me is it's a warm toned, perfect for the summer palette. This palette has a really great value for money, for the quality you get I cannot say it's expensive!

In this palette you get a full size Amazonian Clay blush in Fame which is not sold separately so far so it's exclusive to this palette. It's a light coral blush that I would never pick up on its own but it's great to get to try this shade in a palette. I believe this is more pigmented that other Amazonian Clay blushes that I own. Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes are my favourite so I don't need to talk about the formulation anymore! Haha.

The Park Ave Princess bronzer is a mostly matte warm bronzer that's definitely not for contouring. On the palette you can see very little amount of sparkles but it does not translate on the skin. I feel like I have to be careful when using this to warm up my face because it can look slightly orange, but it's definitely still wearable, I just have to apply one thin layer at a time.

Champagne Pink highlighter is an icy white, very slightly pink toned highlighter but I don't think it's champagne at all. It's really pigmented so you can build up for an intense, highlighted look. I don't have anything like this in my collection! Upon applying on top of my cheek bones, I was like wow that's icy white. It's not the most versatile highlighter as I don't know if it's going to suit a lot of skintones, so watch out for that.

L-R: showstopper copper, go for the gold, you're a natural, steel the scene, rose to the top, dim the lights
The eyeshadow shades in this palette are basic, muted, neutral shades but not the most usual browns. They have an edge to them. The colours complement each other really well and they have the most amazing texture. They are softer and more buttery than my Tartelette palette. You can definitely create a day to night look using these 6 eyeshadows. They are all very beautiful shades but.... I think the colours don't look very different from each other. On me, Showstopper Copper and Rose To the Top look so similar that they could just be one eyeshadow and no one would notice. I would categorize all of the colours as more mid toned except for Dim the Lights which is obviously a darker shade. Nothing stands out more than the other. That's the only flaw from this palette I think is the eyeshadow colour range is not exciting, yes it's beautiful, very wearable for all year round, very easy to apply but it does not excite you. I wish at least one would be more sparkly, more metallic or something. But that's what Tarte does, they never go wrong with natural shades! You win some you lose some. If you don't really experiment with your eye look this will be more than enough! It depends on what you're looking for, really.

On the pictures above, I was wearing everything that's on the palette. I love that everything on the palette complemented each other really well! Tarte did a great job putting everything together. If you like this look, then I recommend getting this palette. I did this in a rush so I did not blend my eyeshadow as well as I would like, but trust me they blend like a dream!

Overall, if you want an all-in-one palette, and you don't want to think too much when creating a look, I highly recommend this palette. I cannot say it excites me the way I had hoped, but it's a beautiful, basic palette nonetheless.

Much love,
x
