My Perfume Collection

Tuesday, 22 November 2016

Now I'm not saying I'm a perfume connoisseur, but over the years I have build up quite a collection. To tell you the truth, I don't rotate all of them (oops!) I use some of them more than the others, and I am going to tell you which ones they are and reasons why I love them. Nobody needs this many perfumes I know! I keep them all because they look so beautiful on display and some of them have sentimental values.

I didn't start collecting perfumes until probably 3 years ago. My experience with real fragrances however, goes way back to junior high. Believe it or not, I used to wear men's fragrances (cologne? Whatever you call them), but I only kept 1 bottle at a time. I loved musky, masculine scents. Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio, Carolina Herrera 212, Bvlgari Aqva were some of my favourites. My husband wears Acqua Di Gio at the moment thanks to me!

Out of the ones I have now, I have used Victoria's Secret Bombshell the longest. This is actually my 3rd bottle. If you don't like strong scents you are not going to love this. It has a fresh, musky scent with a hint of sweetness. I feel sexy when I wear this. It also stays on for a long time.

As for Elie Saab L'Eau Couture, it was a gift from my Mom. My Mom goes umrah every year, and every year she buys me a bottle of perfume as a gift. That year I decided I wanted Elie Saab, because it's Elie Saab! Haha. It has a unique scent that I am not used to. It does not have a freshness to it, it is very feminine, almond-y, citrus-y scent. It's not a light scent, but it's not strong either. I imagine this as a 'bridal' scent, it smells like something you wear when you're wearing a gown with diamonds almost. I don't reach out for this as much, as it is not a casual scent and it does not really reflect my personality. Also I think it reacts with my body weirdly.

The legendary CHANEL No. 5 I'm keeping for sentimental reasons. This is an old bottle. I'm guessing it is from the 90s that my Dad gave to my Mom. My Mom just never used it up. If you didn't know, I lost my Dad many years ago to cancer. So it's a nice memorabilia to have with me. I never used it, because those long years have done something to the smell (haha) and I want to keep it as long as I can.

I bought Valentino Valentina impulsively, thinking back I actually regret it. I could've bought another perfume I actually liked! I got sucked in because of the packaging, also the sales lady was very persistent :( It is not memorable or unique. There are a lot of fragrances that have similar scent to this one. It's something I feel like my Mom would wear. It's more mature. It's sweet and very floral, almost obnoxious and sickly to me. I know this perfume has a lot of fans, but sadly it just does not work out for me. Well at least it makes a pretty display.

I have 4 Marc Jacobs fragrances. I love Marc Jacobs fragrances, I think they're doing it right! Especially the Daisy line.

My least favourite from the Daisy line would be Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh. I don't hate it, it's just my least favourite out of the 3 I have. It is a light scent, more fruity than floral, but definitely not fruit punch cheap scent. For a floral scent, it has a good amount of freshness to it. It reminds me of spring time. I wear this when I feel a little playful. My 2nd favourite would be Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream. Daisy Dream is a lighter scent, it is fresh and understated. Top notes are blackberry, grapefruit and pear, so it's fruity but not the way you'd expect it. It has hints of floral and musky scent. Great for everyday I'd say.

My favourite fragrance in my collection would probably be Marc Jacobs Daisy. Oh boy do I love it so much. This one is my second bottle. It's more intense, it's feminine, something a hip, modern girl who wears oversized clothing in pastel colours, also wear a lot of white shirts, with Kinfolk, Pinterest like aesthetic would wear. You know what I mean? What I love the most about this is when you smell someone wearing this, you would know instantly that it's Marc Jacobs Daisy. It's unique, strong, it stays on without giving you headache. This is probably the first fragrance with strong floral scent that I am head over heels in love with. It's very elegant but also warm. It's not a sweet scent as well, which I love.

The last Marc Jacobs in my collection would be Marc Jacobs Dot. I would describe the scent as spicy. It has a kick to it. It's more rock n roll but still feminine. I really can't say much about it, what I can say is it's not something you would expect from a women's fragrance.

Last but not least, my Chloe EDP, which is also my second bottle. Everyone and their kittens love this. It is light, airy, but it also has an intensity to it. It captures the DNA of Chloe perfectly. Fresh, romantic, floral. It stays for a loooong time on the skin, sometimes until the day after. The one thing I hate about it is the bottle tarnish. This does not just happen to me but also to others as well. It's what happens with Chloe bottles I guess. For the price, you want it to look perfect until the end of time. I've had some of my perfumes for years, and they stay perfect, except this one. Some people say it adds to the experience and it gives the bottle an aged, vintage look. It just looks dirty to me, like I can't take care of it. Despite this though, I still reach out for it a lot.

My top recommendations would be Marc Jacobs Daisy and Chloe EDP. I want to make room for YSL or Dior, maybe in the future.

Much love,
x

  2. Wow! that's really some great collection. As a husband of a fragrance addict wife, I know all of these perfumes. From them, I really like the scent of Victoria's Secret Bombshell. I bought this perfume couple of months ago for my wife from a local store named Buy Perfume in Bangladesh. Thanks for sharing your personal collection, really inspiring!
