Myeongdong to Nami Island, Seoul

Monday, 26 December 2016

On my recent trip to Seoul, we allocated half a day to visit Nami Island. I knew our way around Seoul because I have visited a couple of times previously, so that helped. We took the subway all the way to Gapyeong station, which is the nearest subway station to Nami Island, and then took a taxi from the station to the Nami Island ferry wharf. The taxi took only 5 minutes to reach the wharf, and the fare is not expensive at all. I would suggest taking a taxi from Gapyeong instead of waiting for the bus (especially if you're going on a cold winter day like I did). The journey took about an hour to an hour and a half, thankfully the train was not busy so we got to sit the entire journey. If not, we would be tired from standing up even before we reached the island.

We got to the island at 11.45 AM, and we walked directly to the restaurant I knew because we were so hungry and we figured at noon the restaurant would get busy. After lunch, we strolled around the island until around 2.30 PM and we went back to Myeongdong.

If you are going to Nami Island I suggest going on a weekday and early in the morning. Another tip, when you get off the ferry at the island, you will have the option of going right or left, and I would say follow the path to the right part of the island, because the restaurants are there, the famous Metasequoia tree path, Ginkgo tree path, and the winter sonata statue are there, there are also wild ostriches and snacks like sausages and hotteok.

You can spend an entire day if you want to, but we went on a winter day so we couldn't really picnic or anything. I want to go back during the peak of autumn or spring, but that's for another time.

If you have any questions, shoot me in the comments.

Much love!
