Seoul Photo Session: Bukchon Hanok

Wednesday, 21 December 2016

We didn't have engagement/pre wedding pictures and we hate our wedding pictures, so on this trip I decided to hire us a photographer to explore the Bukchon area with for 2 hours, and I am so pleased with the result.

I have always wanted to do a session with Sweet Escape, but on previous trips I felt like we were not there yet. This session is quite an addition to the expense of the trip for us, but thankfully we could make it work for this one and it's well worth it. I booked last minute, just 3-4 days before the session, and the process was easy and they were very accommodating. Once we were assigned a photographer, I contacted him and discussed about meeting points etc, and I decided that Bukchon Hanok Village would be the place for us.

Bukchon Hanok Village is a residential area where you can see and feel the vibe of traditional Korean houses in the middle of the city. The place was very central, just a few stations from where we stayed. I wanted the pictures to showcase more of the traditional side of Seoul instead of the crowded modern, "happening" city. The other option we had was the Gyeongbokgung palace, but I felt like strolling around Bukchon Hanok would look more organic and casual, since we're just wearing casual clothing. Plus Gyeongbokgung can be filled with tourist groups a lot of times in the day.

Come the day of the photoshoot and I arrived there with an open mind and excitement. I tried to be very relaxed and not controlling, because that's what I usually tend to do. 2 hours can be long if you are not comfortable with someone taking your pictures, or struggle to just let go and look natural, but we tried to make the best out of what we had. The last 30 minutes or so we were starting to get confused on where else to explore but I also felt like in the first hour we have gotten what I wanted. Next time though I have already had some more poses in mind (haha).

Some of these are cheesy but we never had pictures taken by a professional photographer before, especially during traveling. It's always been just the two of us and it's a struggle to have a decent picture together. That's exactly what we needed I think! Haha. I'm so happy we have these lovey dovey pictures now.

I really hope you don't think I look too bad in these pictures. Next time I'll look better I promise!

Much love!
