Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation shade 4: Review, Swatches

Thursday, 23 March 2017

I can't believe I'm back! I was stuck in a rut and was not inspired enough to write down a blog post. This post may be the start of a come back, let's hope so! If there's something I want for this year is that I want to have a schedule for my blog, maybe once or twice a week. We'll see.

I have always loved foundations, but recently I have been in a hunt to find the perfect foundation. I just want to try them all! This one was high up on my list and I have been going back and forth for too long so I felt like it's time for me to actually get a bottle and not just look up dozens of reviews every few months. It is an expensive foundation though, so I wanted to be careful before I made the jump.

The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk has a massive fan base, so many makeup junkies swear by it. I've had unpleasant experiences with popular foundations, so I was anticipating that with this one I may have just spent a fortune on something that does not work for me. Anyway, I ended up loving it!

The sleek, sophisticated frosted glass packaging is to be expected from a brand like Armani. It's sturdy and simple, there's nothing more I can say about it. The pump dispenses a good amount of product. Every single review I read has talked about how nice the pump is and I agree 100%. I probably use about 2 pumps for each application to achieve the coverage I want. This foundation does not have a strong scent, it smells like a regular moisturizer instead. Nothing nauseating at all. The texture is quite thin and a little runny, but not as liquidy as water based foundations, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and NARS All Day Luminous Weightless for example.

They say this foundation is luminous, lightweight, comfortable. It should have medium coverage, it should also improve texture and blur imperfections. The finish of this foundation should resemble charmeuse silk. After trying it out several times, I do feel that the description is pretty spot on, which is a massive plus!

First time I tried it on Instagram Live, I was amazed by how good it made my skin look. It made me look flawless on camera, and my skin was enhanced in real life. I get the same feeling every time I wear it, which makes this foundation reliable. It glides over my pores and it gives my cheeks an airbrushed, blurred finish.

I had no difficulties spreading and blending it with my Beauty Blender. It looks good on my nose  initially which is a huge problem area for me. I would say the finish is silky, demi-matte, with a little luminosity. It's not shiny nor dewy all over, it just has a glow on strategic areas. It does set and dry down. If you have normal or slightly dry skin, you won't need to set it with powder, because it looks so beautiful and healthy on its own. However, for combination and oily skin gals like me, I find that powder on top of it is a must.

I agree that this foundation has buildable medium coverage. You can definitely sheer it out by wearing very thin layer or build it up to medium coverage. If you are looking for full coverage however, this won't cut it for you. It covers redness and does a great job at evening out my skintone, but it does not cover hyperpigmentations for me.

It does not accentuate dryness but I'd suggest making sure your skin is well moisturized no matter what foundation you use.

The only negative thing is that after 5 hours, my nose gets quite noticeably shiny. The foundation on my nose does not break, but the oil definitely seeps through and it's not flattering. It also pools on the sides of my nose. Keep in mind that I live in a humid and hot country, and my nose is always a problem area no matter what product I use. I struggle in finding foundation that looks perfect all day long on my nose anyways, so for me this is not a huge deal. I just have to bring my blotting paper and powder for touch ups.

All in all, this foundation makes my skin look unbelievably gorgeous and healthy, it minimizes the appearance of pores which is something I always look for in a foundation. I love my Too Faced BTW and MUFE Ultra HD but the finish of this one is on another level. Just, beautiful. However, I do wish that this foundation lasts better on my nose area, because only then I will say this foundation is perfect.

With full makeup on...

Comparison with other foundations I have in my collection...

Have you tried out this foundation before? What do you think? Anything else you'd like to see me try in the future?

Much love,
